New York 2004
An invigorating day - the march was pretty impressive. At least 200,000 people; a good representation of young and old. People were in a good protesting mood and the police were very reasonable and not at all combative -- a completely different atmosphere than in Miami. The one sizable incident (dragon catching fire) was handled very well and didn't change the energy of the day. Not a lot of people wearing Kerry shirts or waving Kerry banners, but not too many people bashing him either. Of interest were the large number of so-called "radical" groups present - in particular, the Spartacist League had a large presence. The overriding theme of the day was definitely anti-Bush and anti-war.
